TCF 311 Final Paper

Two options:

  1. A final paper based on the sample Narrative Analysis or Non-narrative Analysis (not both) in the Television appendix. It must be word-processed and is due Monday, 12/8, 4:45 p.m., in my mailbox in the TCF office (Phifer 484). Approximately 5-10 pages. Worth 20% of the semester grade.

This paper may be based on a program you used for the exams, but it may not be based on programs that are discussed at length in Television or on TVCrit.com (including, As the World Turns, Designing Women, Friends, and Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place).

Any use of sources other than yourself -- including Television and Web resources -- must be properly cited. (If you are using MLA style, the rules for citing Web resources are over here.) A bibliography and the credits for the program analyzed must be provided. Your credits must include: producer, production company, director, writer, principal cast (actors' and characters' names).

  2. If you are satisfied with your average score for the first three exams, you may use that percentage in place of the final paper. So, if your average is, say, 80%, then that would serve as your grade on the final paper. This grade will still be worth 20% of the semester grade.
You do not need to notify me in advance about the option you've chosen. If I do not receive a paper from you by the deadline, I will calculate your grade based on option #2.
