Patrick Jablonski, Ph.D.

was my first doctoral student. His dissertation is entitled "A Time Series Analysis of the Health Care Issue, 1988-1993: The Agenda of the Media, the Congress, the President, and the Public." "Uncle" Pat is in charge of research in Orange County Florida.

Charles A. Tuggle, Ph.D.

is a tenured Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Charlie's dissertation is entitled, "Television Sports Reporting of Female Athletics: ESPN SportsCenter and CNN Sports Tonight."

Hsin-Ju "Jessy" Yu, Ph.D.

was my first international doctoral student. Her dissertation is entitled "An Experimental Study of the Effects of Video Presentation on Empathy and Giving Behavior." Jessy left the states to teach in Taiwan at the Chinese Culture University but has returned with her husband to the US.

Tracy Collins Standley, Ph.D.

is teaching production at McNeese State University. Her dissertation is entitled, "Source Bias in Children's Television News." That's the university prez handing Tracy her diploma.

Lola L. McCord, Ph.D.

came to us from Auburn and returned to teach at Auburn University at Montgomery. Her dissertation is entitled "Do We Notice the Flaws? Exploring the Influence of Partisanship on Perceptions of Bias in Election News." Lola has promised me a picture.

Richard David Parker, Ph.D.

wrote a timely dissertation with the title, "Uses of Electronic Mail by Candidates in the 2000 Election Campaign for President of the United States." He's at University of Arkansas, Little Rock teaching advertising and marketing.

Wanna Pongthinthongngam, Ph.D.

is teaching in her home country of Thailand. Her dissertation which required her to go live with several families is entitled "Information Infrastructure in Thailand from Policies to Practice: A Case Study of the Tambon Internet Project." Another one without a picture.

Kay Taylor, Ph.D.

is teaching at Appalachian State in beautiful Boonesboro, North Carolina. Her dissertation is entitled "Expert as Exemplar: The Effects of Source Specification in the Perception of News and Issues." Kay has promised me a picture but I've heard that before.

Melissa McElroy Smith, Ph.D.

took on one of Alabama's most famous citizens in her dissertation. "State's Rights, Intellectual Snobs, and Religious Redemption: Three Decades of George C. Wallace and the Media" She's an assitant professor at Mississippi State.

Sheree Martin, Ph.D.

is teaching at Oklahoma State University in the Paul Miller School of Journalism and Broadcasting. Her dissertation is entitled "Broadcast Radio Programming: A Content Analysis to Measure Diversity in Radio Airplay."

Brian Brantley, Ph.D.

is teaching in his home state of Texas at the University of Texas, Permian Basin. His dissertation is entitled "Professional Baseballin Black and White: A Content Analysis of Newspaper Coverage of the 2003 Season." and looked to see if the biased language found in broadcast coverage of football applied to print coverage of baseball.
